This project involved the renovation of a dilapidated barn in a secluded site surrounded by mature vegetation and impressive views over the North Wessex Downs National Landscape. The client approached Fowlers with the desire to transform the barn into a functional and open-plan living space with a single bedroom occupying a mezzanine over the service areas.
In order to meet the clients desire for a ‘modern’ aesthetic, the original metal cladding and roofing was removed and replaced with a sleek black corrugated metal sheet.
The existing openings were modified and fitted with aluminium framed glazing to focus on maximising the sprawling views and connection with the surrounding natural environment.
In addition to this, the original single storey element was deemed beyond repair and therefore a bespoke, pre-fabricated structure was designed in co-ordination with Bert’s Boxes to provide an additional two-bedroom accommodation with modular living spaces and natural materials. The two structures are linked by a shared terrace and decking which is flooded by natural light throughout the day.
