Our Feburary 2021 planning permission news, with some of our latest approvals from January:

New Link in Listed Building in Hampshire

Fowlers were asked to design a link to connect a house to its outbuilding in Hampshire. Our clients wanted to create better flow between the two buildings and connect the house. However, the house itself is a listed building, the outbuilding is curtilage listed.

A previous scheme by another practice was withdrawn, so we needed to address the council’s concerns in our new design. The team at Fowlers designed a link that was less intrusive on the existing historic fabric of the buildings. This involved changing the elevations and roof style, which helped to alleviate the council’s heritage concerns.

Following this planning permission approval, Fowlers are working on another outbuilding on the site to hopefully turn it into extra accommodation.

New Accessible Layout at Barn Conversion in Gloucestershire

Due to the specific needs of our client’s family, Fowlers were asked to design a new layout for this barn conversion in Gloucestershire.

The internal revisions have a knock-on effect on the external appearance of the barn, and so we needed to be sensitive to its character and location within a Conservation Area.

We worked with the council to discuss changes to the design, and we are pleased we found a solution that met our clients needs and satisfied the council.

New Dormers at Country House in Berkshire

Fowlers has secured permission to install 10 new dormer windows at a country house in West Berkshire. The new dormer windows will mean our clients can convert the loft space into habitable accommodation.

The house was approved in 2005 and is on a large plot in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site also has a public right of way running along one of the boundaries. The main concern with adding dormers is the risk of visual intrusion, as well as the effect on the traditional design of the house.

Fowlers were delighted to see the application approved with no objections, and think the converted loft is a great addition to this family home.
