Listed Building Planning Permission June 2022

Grade II* Extension in Wiltshire

We recently secured approval to extend a Grade II* family home in Wiltshire.

Our clients required a new family room as well as some minor changes to improve the flow and use of the interior spaces. All of this had to be carefully designed to maintain the charm of this historic building.

Our knowledge of working with listed buildings was key to this project. We got an independent heritage consultant on board early to avoid delays during the planning application. We co-ordinated our design with them so that we could make sure that the clients’ needs were met, whilst retaining as much historic fabric as possible.

Listed Building Extension in Berkshire

Fowlers recently gained planning permission for an extension with new dormer windows to an existing annex.

The annex is in the grounds of a Grade II listed building and classed as being in the countryside.

The proposed extension took note of the existing building materials of the adjacent dwelling and the proposed design was carefully considered in order to be consistent with the traditional existing style of the listed building. The Council raised no concerns and planning permission was granted; a great result for our clients.

Two-storey Extension at Listed Cottage in Berkshire

This house is part of a pair of historic cottages in rural Berkshire. Fowlers previously worked on the neighbouring house, so that our clients could move in while work continued at the main house.

We secured listed building consent for interior changes to the cottage, however the planning permission process for the main house was more challenging. We had to commission extra bat surveys and drainage reports, and after 3 applications our goal was reached. The new extension delivers a large, open plan kitchen and family room, as well as a new master suite upstairs.

Ultimately, our clients’ perseverance paid off, and the changes to these characterful homes will prove worthwhile for years to come.
