We recently secured Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for a Grade II Listed house conversion in a prominent location in Hungerford. This is part of a housing development of 7 homes, including 3 flats. 4 of the new homes will be for the over-55s. The Grade II Listed house used to be a mixture of residential and retail space, and will be converted into flats. Existing outbuildings will be converted to 3 more houses, and another outbuilding will be demolished and replaced with a new house.
Heritage & Conservation
We’ve ensured that our design is sensitive to the historic significance of the main Listed Building, and has little effect on the historic fabric of the building. Important views to and from the building were kept, even though the setting of the building was clearly changed. Historically, the building would have always been used as a home, so our plans were consistent with the historic interest of the building.
The site is also within a conservation area, so it was important to protect the setting of other heritage assets nearby. The design principles applied in creating the scheme included scope to make a positive contribution to the character and appearance of the conservation area.
Creative Solutions
Including age restricted housing was a creative solution to meet our clients ambitions for the site. Doing this means that we have achieved planning permission that otherwise would not have been granted due to highways and parking issues.
Overall, we were able to secure permission for a development that will now offer a high standard of amenity and design in a sensitive location. This gives our client a return on investment, and seven new sustainable homes for Hungerford.
